~::: Story of The Boy from Chao Praya in 3 acts :::~

The musical story begins as one morning unlike any others, Chao Praya Boy decides to break free from his protected life and go on a journey in search of excitment and self-discovery.

ACT 1 - Young Boy: For Chao Praya boy, today's dawn is unlike any other. The breeze feels fresher and the sun shines gentler. With a sudden surge of enthusiasm he decides to leave his river home and go on a journey which he believes will be full of fun and the fair.
1 - Klai  Roong (ใกล้รุ่ง - Near Dawn)
By: H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej .......... Lyric: Prof. Dr Prasert Na Nagara
I awake from the calling sound of air.
Today’s dawn raids new care.
Birds take flight and sing in pairs.
A boy like me should hit the road of fun and of the fair.

For the boy from Chao Praya, today’s dawn is unlike any other.  With a sudden surge of enthusiam he leaves his river home and go on a journey which he believes will be full of fun and the fair;

2 - Loom Chao Praya (ลุ่มเจ้าพระยา - Chao Praya River)
By: Nard Thawombut ............................................. Lyric: Kaew It-Chariyakul
Mother says ...the river flow knows not of return.
Time passes and returns not you must learn.
Best each moment never churns.
Your happy heart is what I yearn.

Before embarking on the journey, he looks back at his Chao Praya river home as she reminds him ‘Like the river’s flow that will never return – make every moment count. Be happy now, never later’;

3 - Kor Pen Khon Nueng (ขอเป็นคนหนึ่ง - May I be the one)
By: Somchai Klitsana-Saynee ............................................... Lyric: See-Fah
Anytime you’re sad and lonely!
My shoulder is here to carry your cry.
Many a moon passes, my fondness for you grows fondly.
May I be your love or last shadow, cast on your desire.

During the start of the journey, his naivety blinds him into thinking that what he wants and whom he loves will be rightfully his;

ACT 2 - Loss of Innocence: The Boy has grown up into a fine young man and is naively falling into the trap of ‘careless love’.
4 - Rak Khun Khao Laew (รักคุณเข้าแล้ว - I love you so)
By: Sa-Marn Karnjana-Plin ........................... Lyric: Soontriya Na Wiangkarn
Oh, how I love you so. Our bliss lightens the light,
blessed by the silvery moonshine
Hush away, the tale of woe.  Gentle night dresses you in white,
while colouring me with starry sky!

Many years have passed.  Chao Praya Lad has grown into a fine young man and now found his first love;

5 - Nueng Mid Chid Klai (หนึ่งมิตรชิดใกล้ - Togetherness)
Melody & Lyric: Wimon Jongwilai
We have loved and why you wish to part,
From our calm days we have carved!
Where is your heart?
Mine is walking on broken glass!

But his prospect of happiness is short.  The emotional tension has left him wondering why his love is not to last;

6 - Ta Lay Mai Koey Lub (ทะเลไม่เคยหลับ - Sleepless Sea)
By: Sa-Kngar Ar-Rumpea ...................................... Lyric: Charlie Intara-Wijit
Deep down the sleepless sea.
Cold sand coats my careless love.
Waves wave you away from me.
Their shadow shield my drowning fate above.

Careless in love, in his anguish he compares his pain with the sea that never sleeps.

ACT 3 - Unforgettable Farewell: Many years have passed. Tired and lonely. Is the life as fun as he anticipated! It is time for another wandering - he silently smiles and finally closes the door.
7 - Nok  Kamin (นกขมิ้น - Kamin Bird)
From: Thai Folk Music ......................................... Lyric: Phayong Mukdapan
Now, on my own!
Darkness returns and I’m on my own.
Where should I sleep, where should I roam?
Dear Kamin Bird, I don’t want to be alone!

Night falls!  The final stage signifies the sense of loneliness he faces and fears.  Tired and abandoned, he bows down under the blackness of grief and contemplates self-despair;

8 -Nam Soh Sai (น้ำเซาะทราย - River’s flow cuts through sandbank)
By: Jamrus Sawet-Ta-Bhorn .. ................................Lyric: Charlie Intara-Wijit
River-flow cuts through the bank of sand,
Where I stood as a man.
Dream no more.  I'm closing the door.

Finally, he reflects on the journey and realises that the only joy in his life is the love of his childhood home along the Chao Praya river.
While the Sun continues to rise.
And birds continue to sing.
Dear river's wafting away from the corner of my eyes.
An unforgettable farewell, an unforgettable ring!

Curtain downs

With his last strength, he recalls the echo of his former youth, ‘Klai Roong’ - the resonance brings back the memory of his blissful days along Chao Praya river; so fair and so alluring.  Silence approaches!
